The Pallatine
Saturday 27th March 2010
This is a unique tour which features steam haulage from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly.
This will be the first steam hauled train from London Euston to Manchester for many years. This steam journey has been made possible by using 60019 'Bittern; with its two tenders making water stops unnecessary.
60019 ' Bittern' will steam out of London Euston at around 09:30 and we commence our climb up Camden Bank. We continue north through Harrow. We call at Watford Junction and Milton Keynes to collect further passengers. At Hanslope Junction, we take the Northampton line. Northampton will be our final pick up stop.
We continue northbound through Rugby and the Trent Valley, running through Nuneaton and Litchfirld. At Clowich Junction, we take the Stoke on Trent line and after passing through Stoke, we continue northwards through Macclesfiled and Stockport. We will soon be arriving in Manchester Piccadilly and here we say goodbye to Bittern.
After an enjoyable visit to Manchester, with its wide variety of shops, museums and of course trains, we return to London hauled by diesel or electric traction, setting down passengers as the outward journey.
