The North Wales Coast Express

The North Wales Coast Express
This is a new destination for the Railway Touring Company which gives customers in the West Midlands the opportunity to travel by steam train along the scenic North Wales coast.
Our train departs Worcester at 07:30 and picks up passengers at major stations to Wolverhampton. At Crewe we will exchange our diesel locomotive for BR Standard Class Pacific 71000 Duke of Gloucester. This will take us through Chester, where we pass through the Roman Walls, cross the River Dee and soon after enter Wales. We run alongside the Dee Estuary and the Irish Sea passing through Prestatyn and Rhyl, a coastline known for its stunning beaches. At Colwyn Bay we have a fantastic view of the ‘Great Orme’ - Orme is a Viking name, one of the meanings of which is ‘Serpent’ and the limestone headland on the Creuddyn Peninsula is thought to have reminded early sailors of a giant sea serpent!
We will arrive at Llandudno Junction, nearly 70 miles from Crewe.

Customers can leave the train at Llandudno Junction and spend the day in Llandudno if they wish. Regular service trains run between the Junction and Llandudno. Should you choose to continue with us however, we will depart as soon as the locomotive has taken water. We will cross the Conwy Harbour Bridge over the Conwy Estuary with more views of the Great Orme.
We now run very close to the Irish Sea as we pass through the little seaside resorts of Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan. Soon we arrive in Bangor.
At Bangor you can either continue with our steam train into Anglesey and onto Holyhead where you will have time to explore the town, or you can take one of two optional excursions from Bangor:

The Welsh Highland Railway

Steam hauled journey by Beyer Garratt narrow gauge locomotive from Caernarfon to Rhyd Ddu and return (24 miles). The cost is £22 per person and £10 per junior. The price includes private coach from Bangor.

Snowdon Mountain Railway
Join our chartered steam train at Llanderis to Snowdon Summit and return. The cost is £25 per person and the price includes a private coach from Bangor.

These options should be requested at the time of booking.

Our train departs Holyhead at around 17:00 and we will call to collect passengers we left at Bangor and Llandudno Junction. At Crewe we say goodbye to our steam locomotive, the Duke of Gloucester, and return south hauled by a modern diesel locomotive. We set down at all outward pick up stations.
