The British Pullman
Saturday 6th September 2008
You will be pampered by the attentive British Pullman staff, simply sit back and enjoy the ride.
The British Pullman takes its name from George Mortimer Pullman, an American, who in 1864 built The Pioneer, the first railway carriage designed with the true comfort for the passenger. The later creation of the Pullman Car Company in 1882 led to his domination of luxury train travel in Britain from that time onwards.
The luxury carriages of the British Pullman originally formed the train that would take passengers from London to the English Channel ports as part of the famous Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express, as well as travelling the length and breadth of Great Britain.
Our train departs Haywards Heath at around 8am and calls to pick up passengers at Preston Park, Hove and Worthing. The on board service will include a Champagne Brunch on the outward journey and a four course dinner on the return.
The route passes many places of interest including Lancing College, Arundel Castle and Chichester Cathedral with its stunning views over the English Channel. Numerous rivers are crossed before Havant and then we cross the famous Farlington Marshes, famous for their rich bird life and views across Langstone Harbour. The train then heads westwards, past Portsmouth and towards Salisbury before arriving at either Bath or Bristol.
