Snow, Ice and Steam in Switzerland

This exciting tour offers you the opportunity to travel through the Swiss Alps by steam during the snow laden winter months. We include the Rhatische Bahn’s unique ‘Steam Powered Snow Blower’ and can assure you that witnessing the Xrot9213 is a truly fantastic sight! We take in a sensational circular route, enjoying a steam hauled journey through Davos and Klosterstour. If that’s not enough, we provide delicious meals, efficient transfers and comfortable hotels.

Tuesday 25th January

Farewell to London

We have a morning departure from London St Pancras by Eurostar to Paris Gare du Nord. From there we transfer by coach to Paris Gare De L’Est to board the Intercity train to Mulhouse.
On arrival at Mulhouse we check into our hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. (L D)


Wednesday 26th January

Steam on the Bernese Oberland Railway

After breakfast we transfer from Mulhouse to Interlaken via Basel Ost by regular service train. After a light lunch we’ll be departing on board our special steam hauled train through the mountains to Grindelwald, on the metre gauge Bernese Oberland Railway, arriving back at Interlaken at 17:00. We’ll have dinner and stay overnight at Hotel Interlaken. (B L D)


Thursday 27th January

Steam over the Brunig Pass

Setting off after breakfast, we join our special train at Interlaken East Station to enjoy a journey by steam over the Brunig Pass to Giswil for lunch. After lunch we continue, steam hauled on our privately chartered metre gauge train returning to Interlaken. Dinner and overnight accommodation in Interlaken (B L D)


Friday 28th January

The Glacier Express to St Moritz

Following a tasty breakfast we board a service train to Brigg where we join the famous Glacier Express. This famous train is renowned for being the slowest express train in world! Slow or not, it’ll take us on an enjoyable journey via Chur to St Moritz. Sit back and enjoy the magnificent views as we pass through areas of unspoilt natural beauty, fragrant mountain forests, alpine meadows and rushing mountain streams.
The train reaches an altitude of over two thousand feet near Andermat, and lunch will be served in the restaurant car during the journey. On arrival in St Moritz we transfer to our hotel for overnight accommodation and dinner. (B L D)


Saturday 29th January

Snow Blower

We leave St Moritz on the morning train to Pontresina where we’ll join the famous Xrot9213 steam powered Snow Blower giving you a unique experience on the journey to Ospizio Bernina and back. We enjoy lunch in a restaurant in Ospizio Bernina before returning to Samedan.
From Pontresina we board the regular train back to St Moritz, dinner and accommodation in our hotel. (B L D)


Sunday 30th January

Steam to Scuol 

We travel from St Moritz, hauled by a classic 2-8-0 steam locomotive. From St Moritz we travel through the snowy mountains to Scuol, a pretty spa town situated on the banks of the River Inn. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant close to the station, then we’ll return by steam along the lovely Engadine Valley to St Moritz. We transfer by service train to Chur. We check into our hotel for dinner and accommodation. (B L D)


Monday 31st January

Steam Charter to Davos

After breakfast we take the morning train to Landquart and catch the Rhatische Bahn vintage train, hauled by a metre gauge 2-8-0.
From Lanquart we climb all the way up to Klosters, the ski resort made famous by its royal and celebrity patrons. Then onwards to Davos, where the Hotel Terminus’s light lunch precludes an exciting circular route through Thusis to Chur arrival time 16:00. (B L D)


Tuesday 1st February

By train to London

After a morning departure from Chur we travel to Mulhouse to change trains, boarding the midday train to Paris Gare de L’Est and taking the attractive route via Mulhouse and Belford.
From there it is only a short transfer to the Gare du Nord. We board a late afternoon Eurostar service to London, which includes champagne on departure and a four-course dinner, arriving back in London at around 20:00. (B D)
